The bark of the willow tree is said to have protective qualities, and from that belief comes the tradition of 'knocking on wood' to keep bad luck at bay. It is from willow that aspirin is derived, thus its association with healing. Willow wood is regenerative, even dried out old branches can root and grow when introduced to water, this is it associated with immortality and often serves as wood for a witches broom. When burned, it attracts ancestral spirits.
