Artemisia Vulgaris

Common name:

Sacred to its namesake the goddess Artemis, it was worn in the sandals of Roman soldiers to stay off the fatigue of long journeys, and from that experience may have received its reputation for ensuring safe travel. It is also linked to the spirit world, in some traditions, such as Spiritualism, it is said to attract the spirits of the dead, whereas among some Native Americans it was said to drive away spirits, thus one’s cultural background appears to direct its purpose. It is also utilized in Neo-Paganism and Hoodoo for psychic development, such as by allegedly aiding with predictive dreams when placed in a mojo bag or dream pillow.
