Native to Ireland, North America, Russia, Scandinavia and Scotland, Heather is said to bring rain when burned with fern. According to lore for Scotland (where Heather is rare) it is said to grow only on the graves of faeries. Other folklore sources attribute it as being a sacred herb for women and their mysteries. It is said to protect against rape, and to aid in the emotional healing of those who have suffered physical injustice. The Picts made an ale from Heather that was said to fortify them as warriors, whereas it is also known to make a tea most often noted as soothing.
