In European Christian mythology it was the hawthorn that allegedly composed the crown of thorns worn by Jesus and is considered holy. Such a bush grows on Glastonbury Tor, the legendary grave of King Arthur. Because of those associations the plant it used to gain the protective aid of God and the Mighty Dead. When burned it is said to sanctify an environment. Just as the sacrifices of those mythological figures with which it is associated brought blessings to mankind and country, these berries are said to attract blessings to you.
